The 1900 kilometres long pilgrim trail "VIA ROMEA", from Stade (close to Hamburg) to Rom, from Elbingerode to Hasselfelde.

On the Elbingerode high plateau, we go through the chulk mining area, into a wooded area. Along the "Königshütte", direction of "Rappbodetalsperre", we pass the "Königsburg". The tour ends in Hasselfelde on the market.

Author’s recommendation

The tour on the VIA ROMEA offers a lot of variety. Open landscape, dams, Harz forests, ... something of everything!

Turn-by-turn directions

From the starting point on the market in Elbingerode, we go south and cross the B 27. Follow the "Karl-Marx-Straße" to the right and turn left into "Torstrasse". Keeping straight ahead, we leave the town and come to a chulk mining area. Following the broad gravel path, we approach the forest on a high plateau. Continuing southwards, following a sweeping right curve and a sharp left-hand bend, we reach the wall of the "Königshütte" crossover barrier. We cross this one and follow the path along the water. Just before we reach the village of "Königshütte", we can make a detour to the "Königsburg". From there, we can enjoy the view and rest. After a steep descent, continue in a valley to the south. After a steep ascent, we continue along a crossroads with a wide path to the south. At another crossroads, follow the road to the east and reach the "Rappbodevorsperre" wall. We cross this road and follow the path again to the south. After leaving the forest, we follow an avenue of birch trees to "Hasselfelde". Just before entering the village, there is a crossroads on the left. In the village itself,we pass the "Hagenmühle" and the "Hagenstraße", towards the centre. At the "Breite Straße", we turn left and reach the market of "Hasselfelde".
