Loop Scenic Family friendly Geological highlights

Get to know the nature of the Pyhä-Luosto National Park on the diverse and popular route, see the old forests, aapa mire and the most magnificent view towards the fells.

The aroma and wide open expanse of the aapa mire and the magnificent landscape of the fell range are the definitive highlights of the trail. You will cross the mire on duckboards and hike a diverse, easy trail through old-growth forest. Take a break at the popular Isokuru Lapp kota hut or the Tiaislaavu lean-to at the edge of the mire, where you can enjoy the friendly company of the familiar Siberian jays. You can also fully appreciate the vast scale of Finland's deepest gorge, Isokuru, from the birdwatching tower There are information boards along the trail that provide information on, for example, the traces left by the continental ice sheet of the Ice Age in the middle of the old-growth forest. The trail is easy and short, thus making it an ideal introduction to the park or a quick shortcut for hikers heading to the Pyhä-Luosto National Park.

Safety information

In rainy weather, the duckboards may be slippery. The duckboards on the open mire are narrow and do not have wider sections for passing. The duckboards running from in front of the birdwatching tower and to the well at the Tiaislaavu lean-to are in poor condition. We recommend boiling or otherwise treating the water taken from the well at the Tiaislaavu lean-to before consuming it. In the winter, visitors must start at the Visitor Centre Naava through the "lower entrance", because the "upper entrance", which serves as a parking area in the summer, is covered by snow in the winter and is part of the ski area.
