The hiking trail leads more than 200 km through the most beautiful regions of the scenic Oberallgäu: from the hilly countryside around Kempten, the Allgäu metropolis in the north, down to the south, to the mountains of the mountain range "Nagelfluhkette", the striking peaks of the Allgäu main ridge and back again.

The pre-alpine landscape with its meadows, forests and lakes is an old farmland that thrives on dairy farming. Its various cheeses are famous far beyond the borders. The Allgäu Alps, summer pastures for cattle, are legendary destinations for hikers and mountaineers. With romantic valleys, grey rock faces and panoramic views that you can't get enough of. A varied tour for all those who prefer slow progress to relaxation and health rather than the fast pace of the car.

You can join this circular trail at any point along the route. Our description starts in the very north of the region, in Altusried, a place that is easy to reach. From here, the first stages of the route lead south. Hikers always have the mountains before their eyes, the most beautiful horizon to think of. Slowly it approaches: the main ridge of the Allgäu spreads out imposingly and shows its wild beauty. In Oberstaufen, the hikers start to climb uphill: the mountain stages wait.

The trail leads through the valley "Kleinwalsertal" and via Oberstdorf to Hindelang, where it slowly turns out of the mountains again. The hilly countryside awaits you again and the Iller, which dares a romantic breakthrough through the moraines before Altusried, in narrow loops through a deeply scored valley that is crossed to reach the starting point of the hike, Altusried, on the other side.

Cycling on this trail

The northern arc of the hike, which leads around the villages of Wertach, Altusried and Missen, is also very suitable for cyclists. In places that are difficult or impossible to cycle, there is always a bypass route. From Missen you can close the circle to Wertach via Immenstadt and Rettenberg and thus also cycle a circuit.
