Trek along the fascinating Via Engiadina and experience close-up the sunny valley between Maloja and Samedan in all its facets. The tour itself is full of contrasts and goes from Maloja via Grevasalvas to St. Moritz, then across Alp Muntatsch to Samedan.
The Via Engiadina is a low-altitude hike that follows the valley floor of the Upper Engadine. The varied route takes you through forests of Swiss pine and larch, across streams trickling with crystal-clear waters, idyllic mountain pasture huts and authentic Engadine villages. Breathtaking views of the Upper Engadine lake landscape are guaranteed.
The hike begins in Maloja. The col hamlet on the border with the rugged Bergell valley (Val Bregaglia) has always appealed to artists as well, with its breathtaking natural setting and the fascinating play of light and shade. After a short while you reach the Heidi village of Grevasalvas, nestling sleepily above Plaun da Lej. At Sils-Baseglia the hike almost reaches the valley floor before ascending once again to end the stage at the trendy resort of Silvaplana.
After crossing the road over the Julier Pass, you are soon rewarded with the unique views across the expanses of the Upper Engadine valley, with St. Moritz in the foreground. Then, after the ascent to the Corviglia, past the deep blue waters of Lej Alv, you will reach the alpine trail of Munt da la Bês-cha along Piz Padella. Tradition is a big part of life on Alp Muntatsch, but, after a short rest in the alpine landscape to recoup your strength, it’s time to tackle the descent to the unspoilt village of Samedan.
