While hiking in Kevo Strict Nature Reserve you have wonderful possibility to explore spectacular Lapland's landscapes and northern pure nature all around.
Kevo Strict Nature Reserve was created in 1956 in order to save and protect the Kevo Canyon and neighboring fell area. Currently, it covers about 712 square km. Kevo is divided into canyon area and fell area. Each of them has special hiking trail.
Kuivi trail is an 86,5 km long circle trail that goes through Kevo Strict Nature Reserve’s fell area with sloping hills of ravines. Moreover, this road is combined with the second trail in Kevo Strict Nature Reserve - Kevo Canyon Trail. Kuivi trail goes away from Kevo Trail at Ruktajärvi lake and connects with it once again on the northeast side of Fiellu Waterfall.
During the whole way, Kuivi Trail is well-marked with orange signs on the trees in wooded areas and on wooden poles in open fell areas. It is moderately demanding trail which goes mostly in the fell area, however at some points it is really rocky.
Also, this trail has all needed facilities such as signs, campfire places, camping spots, steps and so on. There are open wilderness huts at the Lake Ruktajärvi, Njávgoaivi and Guivi.
Sulaoja is the trail's southern beginning spot. The path is marked with orange signs on the trees and wooden poles during the whole way.
There is a daily coach connection from Ivalo to Sulaoja and the Lake Kenesjärvi, from Karigasniemi to Sulaoja, and from Utsjoki to the Lake Kenesjärvi.
Kevo Strict Nature Reserve is situated between the road 92 (Karigasniemi-Kaamanen) and the road 4 (Utsjoki-Kaamanen).
Sulaoja is about 11 km to the east from the village of Karigasniemi along Karigasniemi-Kaamanen road. It can be easily reached by car or by bus.
There is a big parking area near the trailhead.
