Burlington's Waterfront Bike Path is a 7.6 mile recreational route that runs from the southern end of Burlington at Oakledge Park to the northern end at the Winooski River. The Bike Path rides along the Lake Champlain shoreline, offering wonderful views of the lake and the Adirondack Mountains to the west.  The bike path links six major waterfront parks, along with the Burlington High School and the Central Waterfront district.
The Burlington bike path is an easy and scenic way to explore the Vermont side of Lake Champlain in the greater Burlington area. The path is well marked and fairly flat for the extent of your journey. The path is also very child friendly making it the ideal ride for families with children. There are a number of stops along the way to find drinks, snacks or provisions. A number of parks can be found adjacent to the path including Starfarm and North Beach.

Author’s recommendation

This route is great for children. My children have enjoyed rides along the Burlington Bike Path since they were very young. The path is a fantastic way to enjoy Lake Champlain. The Champlain Causway is my favorite part of the ride as it offers views of Lake Champlain on both sides.

Tips, hints and links

Burlington, VT is a beautiful and small city. The largest city in Vermont sits upon a hill overlooking Lake Champlain. Here you will find shopping, restaurants, hotels, and attractions.

For lodging, the Hotel Vermont is located very close to the bike path in Downtown Burlington. This is one of my favorite hotels that features Vermont made items in all of the rooms. This modern hotel is very bike-friendly and has exquisite amenities including the famous Hen of The Wood restaurant.

One of my favorite places to stop after your ride is the Skinny Pancake located in downtown Burlington near the Echo center. They have fantastic food options.

If you are looking for a place to grab a beer after your ride, be sure to stop at Foam Brewers. Located in downtown Burlington and adjacent to the bike path, Foam offers outside seating and an excellent beer selection.

If you would like to learn more about Lake Champlain be sure to stop at the Echo Center. Here you will find exhibits, live animals, and activities for the kids.
