Waren (Müritz)

Turn-by-turn directions

For cycling and nature enthusiasts, this Müritz tour is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful experiences. We start in the old town of Waren (Müritz), passing the city harbour. After only a few kilometres, cyclists will be immersed in the pleasant silence of the Müritz National Park. The eastern shore of the lake Müritz is reminiscent of a wildly romantic Garden of Eden, with dense fairytale forests, enchanted moors and shimmering lakes. With a bit of luck, cranes, deer and sea eagles can be spotted here when resting or hunting. In the Federow National Park Information Centre, a webcam films the breeding activities of a nearby osprey nest.

Further south, cyclists reach the town Rechlin. There, the southern branches of the Müritz rise fjord-like into the hilly landscape. Through this blue-green paradise, we reach the western shore. Here the tour leads directly along the water through dense reed forests. Cyclists pass idyllic fishing villages with creaking boathouses and fantastic bathing areas that invite to jump into the cool water. On the peninsula Großer Schwerin, you can only hear the screaming and chirping of the crane, wild goose and coot.

Not far away, the small town of Röbel/Müritz is located. There, it is worth climbing the 58-meter high church tower of the church Marienkirche. The view of the lake Müritz from up here is phenomenal. The tour continues on hilly terrain to the north. Between the lakes Müritz and Kölpinsee, the castle of Klink is situated on an isthmus, which was built according to Loire castles in the neo-Renaissance style. In the evening cyclists return to Waren (Müritz). During a romantic walk at the harbour, you can review the experiences of the tour once again.
