With the rivers to the sea
Both cyclists and the rivers Oder and Neiße have the sea as their destination. To the border of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern follows a cycle path from the Czech Republic via Brandenburg. From here, it is not far to the island of Usedom, where fine sandy beaches and the sea are waiting to be conquered.

Author’s recommendation

The typical pre-Pomeranian architecture of the colonist villages in Riether Winkel and the spa architecture on Usedom are particularly worth seeing.

Turn-by-turn directions

The Jizerské Mountains are the starting point: the source of the Neiße River offers varied uphill and downhill rides with enchanting views. North of Frankfurt (Oder), the Neiße flows into the Oder, whose dikes are equipped with good cycle paths. Shortly before the border to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the cycle path leaves the Oder, which continues its journey to the Szczecin Lagoon on the Polish side.

The cyclists are welcomed with seven idyllic lakes in Vorpommern. Through the wonderfully blooming meadows and green fields of the Randowbruch, the route continues to Krackow with its typical Vorpommern architecture. At the edge of the quiet Randow Valley is the small town of Löcknitz, which invites you to dream with the gentle rush of the river and the humming of the bees. Guarded by a thousand-year-old oak tree, the shores of Lake Löcknitz are ideal for a rest.

The Ueckermünde Heath begins at Glashütte - a green sea whose pleasant smell of forests and water allows people to breathe freely again. The little town of Ueckermünde of the same name impresses with its beautiful Renaissance castle and lively harbour. The path continues along the region Stettiner Haff to the Liliental town of Anklam, accompanied by countless water birds. Small bays and bright rape fields characterise the unspoilt hinterland of the island of Usedom. The seaside resort of Ahlbeck, the destination of this cycle tour, is one of the imperial resorts. They present themselves in the finest spa architecture, with a wide promenade, villas of the golden age, elegant piers and endlessly long beaches.
