The striking sandstone formation resembles an enormous tabletop resting on a table leg. According to legend, it was built by the devil at night.
The Teufelstisch is the landmark of the Palatinate Forest. According to the legend, the rock formation on the ridge was built by the devil as a resting place. However, the scientific explanation is more likely: softer rock parts were removed by erosion while harder layers remained.
