An impressive cave with unusual reflections of light on its inside and a hidden Jesus sculpture

The Grotta dello Smeraldo (“grotto of emerald“) is located near the small town of Conca dei Marini at the coast of Amalfi in Campania, next to highway 163 (SS 163). It owes its name to a stunning play of colors on the inside of the cave: When sunlight pours in, it turns emerald green. Visitors can go on a boat tour to admire the grotto’s artfully grown stalagmites and stalactites. Besides, there’s a crib of ceramics on the cave’s ground at a depth of four meters. Every year, lots of divers get down the Jesus sculpture inside the crib to touch it. In summer various events take place in and around the cave.
