George Heriot's School is a Scottish private school in Edinburgh.
Originally the school was founded as a hospital. Today it is one of the country's elite schools and paves the way for students to further their education at renowned universities in Scotland and England. The school is best known to a wider audience for its impressive appearance, which is said to have inspired J. K. Rowling to create her Hogwarts School of Magic. The mighty building with its four towers quickly allows for this idea. In addition, the pupils of George Heriot's School are divided into the four houses Castle, Greyfriars, Lauriston and Raeburn – which is also well known to Potter fans. J. K. Rowling's own children also attended the school.
