This 6.5 mile route uses the Levada dos Piornais which feeds down from the hills to the west side of Funchal. Hillside and urban walking. We used the bus to get to the start, route 24 at time of writing.
This is one of the lower Levada Walks of Madeira and only 5 miles, one way. Easily reached and a guide is not required. Only one small straight of 20 yards or so where care is needed as it has a 30 foot drop on one side. There is a photo in the route showing where it is and what it looks like.
This 6.5 mile route along the prom at Funchal and beyond should have been easier but a connecting tunnel had been closed. Still a nice walk at the seaside.Updated 19/02/2015 when the tunnel was open. The route was left the same but pictures added at the diversion to show the tunnel.
