The Palatine Saumagen is one of the most popular examples of the regional cuisine as are bratwurst, liver dumplings, sauerkraut and bread. The so-called “Pfälzer Teller” (Palatine Plate) presents a combination of all these delicacies and is very popular among hikers.
Naturally, there are a lot of other tasty seasonal dishes that are constantly reinvented by the regional cooks. One of the many cooking challenges that support the creation of new delicacies is called “So schmeckt die Südpfalz”, meaning “This is what South Palatine tastes like”.

The paths of the “Wandermenü” teaches guests about the Palatine history that is rich with traditions as for example the Celtic village at Donnersberg, the roman settlements, the half-timbered villages or the old imperial cities as the over 2000 years old Speyer.
During your hike it is very likely to pass one of the many castle or ruins as for example the medieval castles of the counts of Leiningen, Neuleiningen and Battenberg. You can also visit the Europe’s biggest red sandstone rock landscape in Palatine. Especially the Dahner rocky landscape in Wasgau, the south part of the Palatine Forest, is known for its one of a kind rock formations.
