The Canary Island Gran Canaria is also called "miniature continent" because of the climatic diversity and the associated different vegetation areas. Not only the boundless sandy beaches make the island a dream vacation destination, but also the mountains and forests provide plenty of outdoor fun. Due to the mild temperatures on the island, hiking and biking is possible all year round.

Between dream beaches and rugged volcanic landscapes
Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands and is located about 200km west of the southern Moroccan coast in the Atlantic Ocean. The almost perfectly circular island belongs to Spain, even though it is closer to the African continent. Its direct neighbors are Tenerife to the west and Fuerteventura to the east. The Canary archipelago captivates with its extraordinary richness of landscape - and the mild climate. This makes Gran Canaria a perfect vacation destination all year round!
The miniature continent and its biodiversity
Gran Canaria impresses with its exceptionally rich flora and fauna. More than 100 species can be found here, which cannot be found anywhere else. No wonder large parts of the island are under nature protection. In addition, UNESCO awarded Gran Canaria the status of a biosphere reserve.
But also climate and landscape are very different on Gran Canaria. For example, the northern part of the island is exposed to trade winds, which causes frequent precipitation and dense fog - the southern part, on the other hand, is more strongly influenced by winds from the Sahara and is therefore much drier.
Endless sandy beaches and dunes define the image of the coast. The dunes of Maspalomas are particularly impressive. The interior of the island is dominated by the mighty volcanic caldera "Caldera de Tejeda". The island's landmark is the striking Roque Nublo (1813m), an 80m high monolith.
Diverse Gran Canaria: Impressions of a hike in the Barranco de Mogán, the strikingly towering Roque Nublo, seemingly endless sand dunes near Maspalomas, the colorful and flowery port town of Puerto de Morgan, an idyllically located reservoir, the Canary Islands spurge (type of flower), the official nature symbol of the island, which can be found on any hike, the architecturally impressive city of Las Palmas or the dreamlike Playa del Ingles - Gran Canaria has so much to offer the holidaymaker.
Outdoor paradise - on foot or by bike
Deep gorges and mountain ranges, up to almost 2000m, make Gran Canaria a sought-after vacation destination for hikers and mountain bikers. Mountain hikers climb the Pico de las Nieves and enjoy the magnificent view from the highest mountain on the island (1949m). Climbers will also find the best conditions. Among surfers and sailors, Gran Canaria is considered an ideal spot because of the wind conditions.
The numerous nature reserves of the island have a lot to offer outdoor enthusiasts: Whether volcanic landscapes, laurel and pine forests or a hike through the green Barranco de los Cernícalos with its amazing waterfalls - there is something for everyone.
