Discover the region
Peloponnese is located in the south of Greece. It is a mountainous region covered by forests, especially in the central part of the Peninsula (Arcadia, east of Messenia and north of Laconia). The highest peak is Mt. Taygetos (Profitis Ilias) located in Laconia with a hight of 2404 m. , often chosen as touristic outdoor destination because of the challenge of this rocky hike and the stunning view over both land and sea. Furthermore, the many valleys and rivers immersed in magical forests on one side and beaches with crystal water on the other, create unique views and sceneries, making Peloponnese a natural multifaceted land with various possible outdoor activities in nature. Historical sites are also the core of this land. Many fortresses, temples, old towns, harbours and old paths can be found all over the peninsula, raging from the Archaic period of ancient Greece to the Greek War of Independence.
Never-ending stories
Sparta, Corinth, Mycenae, Epidaurus are only few famous names that already suggest the potential of this region. Hike on the ancient Acropolis of Corinth, watch breathtaking sunsets from the magnificent theater of Epidaurus, visit the great Mycenae and its archeological site and finally retrace the myths and legends around the fierce Spartans. Furthermore, empires and invasions from different ages, such as the Republic of Venice and the Ottoman empire, have left their prints too, and can be now found all over the peninsula through old towns, harbors and fortifications.
