The mainland of Equatorial Guinea, also called Mbini, stretches from the flat beach to an altitude of over 1000 metres. The country also includes the islands of Bioko (where the capital Malabo is located), Corisco, Elobey Grande, Elobey Chico and Annobón. The landscape, which has hardly been developed for tourism so far, is characterised by tropical rainforest, mangrove swamps, sandy beaches and palm plantations and has a rich colonial history.
