2018-08-02 Ringinglow to Lodge Moor via Burbage and Stanage
Cloudy, SW breeze to start; occasional sun; becoming humid late morning.
Got a lift to Ringinglow to cut out the boring walk from Bents Drive. Houndkirk a bit hard work starting from cold, though! Not been on Stanage for several years, so decided to revisit.
Disturbed 4 red grouse along Houndkirk, and amazed to see a family of same (4 or 5) stood on a rock on the edge, just past the trig point. A couple of kestrels (Burbage Edge and Redmires lower). Paths very dry, and even the usually boggy shortcut from Stanage to Stanage Pole was dry (well, 99%...).
A bit alarmed coming down from Stanage Pole to see scenes of devastation! A lot of the wood has been razed to the ground: apparently, because of storm damage in January, but it's going to be replanted with mixed conifers and deciduous. And Redmires reservoirs have gone missing! Seems they're working on improving the structural bits, and it means draining the reservoirs - upper completely empty, middle getting there.
