Relaxing with the family in Saxony

Saxony's holiday regions offer families excellent opportunities for both exciting and relaxing holidays, whether in the Ore Mountains, in the Leipzig region, in the Sächsische Elbland, in Sächsische Schweiz, in Upper Lusatia or in the Vogtland. A cultural landscape of more than a thousand years with outstanding history and nature beckons you to be active.

Well-developed cycle paths lead to worthwhile destinations in the low mountain ranges, such as Königstein Fortress in the Sächsische Schweiz, to musical instrument farmers in the VogtläThe UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of the Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape, the Upper Lusatian Umgebindehusern, the Leipziger Neuseenland or the castles and palaces on the Mulde. And on Germany's most popular long-distance cycle route, the Elbe Cycle Route, cyclists of all ages are in good hands.

Into the hiking boots

Hikers explore Saxony's most beautiful natural landscapes on excellent trails and encounter experiences with rarity value. Especially on the quality hiking trails: For example, beavers on the Heide-Biber-Tour, the largest brick bridge on the Vogtland-Panorama-Weg, the crest of the Ore Mountains on the Kammweg Erzgebirge-Vogtland, masterfully handmade musical instruments on the Höhensteig-Rundweg around Klingenthal, extinct volcanoes and a Spree spring on the Oberlausitzer Bergweg. What more could a hiker's heart desire? So: lace up your shoes, pack your rucksack, let's go!

Tip: The Upper Lusatian Mountain Trail is the latest „member“ of the Saxon „Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland“

  • Kammweg Trail Ore Mountains - Vogtland
  • "Höhensteig" Klingenthal Circuit

Through deep valleys, forests and high plains in the Ore Mountains, mighty bridges and ski jumps in the Vogtland, past ravines and castles along the Elbe, Mulde or Zschopau – mountain bikers can cherry-pick their way through the Saxon landscapes with rough cleats. We have first-class mountain bike trails to offer. One of the most recent: the Stoneman Miriquidi in the Ore Mountains. From May, the new season starts in the Dunkelwald. Two countries, nine peaks, 4,400 metres of altitude – there is no limit to the fun you can have here! Free of charge: fantastic views. By the way: East Germany's first bike park is in Schöneck in the Vogtland! A playground for dirt, slopestyle, downhill and enduro bikers.

And what makes motorcycling in Saxony so fascinating? Here you can enjoy bends with breathtaking views in the Sächsische Schweiz and a dolce vita with the Frauenkirche, wine and porcelain in the Sächsische Elbland offered. In the land of castles and palaces you will travel back in time, in the Erzgebirge mountains to the cradle of motorbike construction in Saxony and in Upper Lusatia straight into the sunrise.

Hot tip: Rock 'N' Roll through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains on 180 rocky kilometres through the rocky world with great views, through wild valleys and partly on a former race track.

Whitewater rafting, kite surfing, wakeboarding, diving, sailing, surfing, cycling, paragliding... Water rats can expect unexpectedly wonderful water sports paradises in Saxony, wide-open beaches, rental stations for all possible water sports activities, restaurants and maritime accommodation are already inspiring! Geierswalder See, Partwitzer See, Bärwalder See - in the heart of Lusatia, where lignite excavators once dug deep into the earth, a huge water landscape with 21 new lakes is being created. In Leipzig's Neuseenland, for example, instead of open-cast mines, you will find the longest sandy beach in Saxony at Cospudener See. At Camp David Sport Resort on Schladitzer See, everyone from families with children to competitive athletes will get their money's worth on and around the water. Tip: If you want to get the most out of water sports, try out the artificial white-water canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddling trails at Kanupark Markkleeberg.

THE way to start your next outdoor experience!
