Routes in La Rioja

Goodbye Pamplona. Hello La Rioja, a region proud to elaborate the best wines in Spain. From Los Arcos to Torres del Rio the ground is comfortable, however, from this town to the fabulous Viana, the Way is complicated. A long constant up and down slides at the gates of Logroño.  

This stage is not hard to perfomr despite miles. We walk through fields of grain and with little or no shade and you can find places where sun protection and also to buy drinks and food. The place of "Santo Domingo de la Calzada" is a true icon of the Camino de Santiago, the end of the stage.  

Wide country roads through gently undulating farmland take you to Santa Domingo. The historic town of Santa Domingo is lined with medieval streets and grand buildings, including a 12th century Romanesque and Gothic cathedral.

Camino frances.  St Jean to Roncesvalles via Orisson with less steep descent alternative via chapel.  Camino Duro from Villafranca (well worth the extra effort!).  Don't just think about it; DO IT !!

A long section with some steep sections into the Cornava river valleys. However, this is rewarded by entering into the wine region of La Rioja, and the bustling town of Logrono

Climbing high to the ruins, this will be a tiring 9k ascent.  Then all downhill for the return.
