On this idyllic winter hike in Abtenau you can enjoy a constant view of the Tennengebirge mountains covered in deep snow. The winter hiking trail has an easy level of difficulty and is a real treat for everyone. The trail mostly leads along the groomed horse-drawn sleigh trail.

Turn-by-turn directions
From the starting point, walk up between the Hotel Post and the Raiffeisenbank Abtenau and turn right at the highest point onto trail R31. The trail leads through the fairytale-like dwarf forest. Now follow the road past the residential buildings, turn left onto Austraße, where you turn right again after approx. 50m in the bend (R31). The path now runs for about 150m on the pavement along the main road. At Transporte Schnitzhofer (transport company), turn left onto the road into the forest and leave the R31 path in the bend. At the next junction, turn left onto the Meingast estate road, which runs directly into the prepared, slightly downhill horse path. Follow this for approx. 500m until you reach the "Rohrhof" farm and turn left onto the road (R30). Before the forest begins, turn right again onto the prepared horse trail, which is tracked across meadows for approx. 1.2 kilometres. Follow the road straight ahead for a short distance until you reach the prepared path again. Here you can decide whether to continue along the trail towards the starting point or make a detour to the Wandalm refreshment stop. The winter hiking trail continues to the left past the changing facilities and toilets of the cross-country ski trail onto Austraße 110 to the right in the direction of Abtenau. Now follow the uphill road for approx. 1.5 kilometres (keep to the right, the road is closed to cars in winter) back to the starting point in the centre of the village.
