Parallel to the Egelsee cross-country ski trail, the winter hiking trail runs across meadows and fields with a constant view of the mighty Tennengebirge mountains. Despite slight ascents, the hiking trail is universally popular and possible for everyone.

The trail is only groomed with the cross-country ski trail grooming machine when the snow conditions are suitable.

Turn-by-turn directions

The winter hiking trail leads slightly uphill from the start and crosses a road. In slightly undulating terrain, the trail continues to the scenically beautiful Egelsee lake, from there to the edge of the forest, continuing on a somewhat steeper ascent to the former Fliehhofbauer country inn. In a long loop, the trail leads past the Wimmwaldsiedlung (housing estate). From here you have a wonderful view of Abtenau and the backdrop of the Tennengebirge mountains - pure Alpine cinema! The trail descends slightly to the starting point.

Public transport

Take public transport to Abtenau town centre, approx. 1 km on foot to Gasthof Sonnenhof. Route planner: www.oebb.at, www.salzburg-verkehr.at

By road

Coming from the direction of Vienna on the A 1 or from the direction of Munich on the A9, junction Salzburg and continue on the A10 - Tauernautobahn, exit Golling-Abtenau, exit 28 or exit Lammertal-Hüttau, exit 56/60 and then on the Lammertal-federal road to Abtenau.

Leave the main road at Abtenau-West (Lagerhaus), turn left twice after the sports facilities in the direction of the Abtenau adventure pool.
