Höhenglücksteig
One of the best-known and best via ferratas in Germany. A must for beginners as well as via ferrata experts.
The Höhenglücksteig near Hirschbach in the Schwarzen Brand in the Hersbrucker Alb is a pearl among the low mountain climbing routes in Germany. The route, which is divided into three sections (difficulty levels from A to D/E), runs almost continuously at an altitude of 15 to 20 metres over its entire length of about one kilometre and climbs only about 100 metres in altitude. All sections can be bypassed on a parallel hiking trail and it is always possible to ascend and descend. The path was built as early as 1932 by the "Alpinen Gesellschaft Höhenglück" for training purposes for alpine undertakings. It has been modernised several times and is still in top condition today.The division into three sections makes it possible for beginners to discover via ferrata for themselves. At the same time, demanding D/E passages - which can all be bypassed - also challenge the experienced climber.
