The start of the Route is a small metalled single-track road just off the Marlborough-Swindon road (A346).
Head up the hill (Whitefield Hill), past the entrance to a reservoir on your right. As you climb higher, there are progressively impressive views on your left towards Swindon in the north across farmland below the Ridgeway.
At the top of the hill go straight past the mobile telephone mast on your right (where the metalled road becomes a track) and, about 400 m on, straight across the Ridgeway.
Another 400 m of flat track brings you to a farm gate ahead of you where the track veers to the right. Pass through the gate* and follow the path down the valley of the field, bearing slightly right after about 600 m and leave the field through another gate (or negotiate the stile).
Immediately after passing through the gate, turn right and join the byway heading up the hill, passing Snap Farm on your right.
After about 500 m take a sharp right to continue round Snap Farm on the dirt track. This will, in 600-700 m, bring you back past the same gate that you took into the field*.
From here, retrace your steps to your starting point.
