Experience the roaring Vaattunkiköngäs, enjoy the luxuriant river nature and feel the ambience of the old woods on an easy-to-use boardwalk.
The Könkäänsaari nature trail will lead even the youngest family members to discover the roar of the mighty waterfall, the luxuriant river nature that is dominated by floods in spring, the beautiful side streams of River Raudanjoki and the old woods. Alongside the duckboards that are easy to walk along, information boards tell small stories about what happens in river nature during the year or what kinds of bugs live in the decaying wood fallen next to the duckboards. The trail also offers tips for recognising the most common birds. During a break in the courtyard with the Könkäänsaari lean-to, children may step into the boots of Kurre Könkäänsaari and go treasure-hunting. The Kielosaari Plant and Fungus Trail is easily accessible from Könkäänsaari. However, the Kielosaari duckboards are narrower, and the route is not accessible for instance for wheelchair users. The Könkäänsaari and Kielosaari nature trails use the RovaniemiNature mobile app providing diverse additional information on nature in the area.
Please note that in places, the route passes by River Raudanjoki, which flows freely. You can stay in the safe area by sticking to the marked route. There is a sign showing how many people may use the Vaattunkiköngäs suspension bridge simultaneously. Please read the detailed instructions on the site.
