Take a hike amidst the rugged fells and say hello to the Siberian jays. Enjoy the fireside atmosphere down by the lake. The Kesänkijärvi Loop is a hiking route through splendid fell landscapes which is suitable for children as well.
Pack your food supplies into your backpack and head out for the Kesänkijärvi lean-to. On this easy hiking route, surrounded by the rugged landscape, you get to see the fells and genuine Lapland forests and swamps. These are sites which cannot be passed without breathing a sigh of wonder.
The beautifully stark Kesänkitunturi and Kellostapuli are marvellous to look at. At Kesänkijärvi Lake, it’s worth having a camera ready to capture the way the imposing scree slopes of the fell are reflected on the lake’s surface.
The lake, located at the centre of the route, is bordered by virgin forest, streams and lush springs. Information boards about the local nature are spaced at pleasant intervals along the route.
The route has been upgraded, and the first section, extending up to the lean-to, is accessible for the disabled. It is worth keeping your eyes sharp when at the shelter, because some inquisitive Siberian jays are known to sometimes flutter around nearby.
After the shelter, the route continues over a metal broadwalk into the forest and then along the Hormistonjänkä duckboards back to the starting point at the Kesänkijärvi parking area. The duckboards are easy to walk along, but they are too narrow for prams. On the open marshland, you get to enjoy the fragrances of the marsh and, in autumn, to admire the rich colours. And perhaps you will also find a cloudberry tucked in next to the duckboards.
