Beautiful and beginner-friendly snowshoe tour with magnificent views of the Allgäu mountains
The Sonnenkopf is the ideal mountain for ski and snowshoe hikers. Over beautiful pastures we reach the Sonnenkopf in a pleasant ascent without any particular difficulty. The tour is very popular. If you want to find untouched slopes here in fresh snow, you have to start early.
Refreshment stops are only available at the start and finish of the tour. Therefore take some provisions and a warm drink for the summit rest!
The tour is only exposed to avalanches in extreme conditions.
Snowshoes, telescopic poles with large plates, avalanche equipment with avalanche transceiver, avalanche probe and avalanche shovel, day hiking backpack (approx. 30 litres) with rain cover, comfortable and waterproof winter shoes or sturdy hiking boots that fit into the binding of the snowshoes, if necessary gaiters, warm and durable clothing in a multi-layer construction, ski jacket and trousers, cap/headband, scarf, gloves, ski goggles if necessary, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, thermos flask with hot drink, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, headlamp and reflectors if necessary, map material, bivouac bag and rescue blanket
Hotel Sonnenklause (1042 m)

The starting point of the tour is at Hotel Sonnenklause above Hinang. In front of us is the wide, free slope that is the standard ascent route to the Sonnenkopf. We head towards the right edge of the forest, where a signpost leads us towards Sonnenkopf and Entschenalpe. We follow the ascent track, which largely follows the course of the forest and hiking trail. With a relatively even gradient, the path climbs up through the forest, only in a few places do the trees offer a view of the Iller Valley below us. Shortly before the Entschenalpe, the ascent trail branches off to the left and we ascend in several hairpin bends directly to the east to the summit of the Sonnenkopf.
From the summit, we first follow the ridge to the north for a while until we reach a wide slope on the left. We choose this one for the descent. It leads us directly to our starting point at the Sonnenklause.
all notes on protected areas
In Sonthofen (exit Sonthofen Süd) take the side road that leads to Oberstdorf via old towns, Hinang, etc. At the exit to Hinang a striking uphill bridge crosses the main road. After leaving the main road, turn left directly over the bridge and continue uphill for about 1.5 km to the Sonnenklause.
