The Glass Route in Eastern Bavaria is one of the most diverse holiday routes in Germany. It runs for 250 kilometres through the impressive landscapes of the Upper Palatinate and Bavarian Forest, where the over 700-year tradition of glassmaking and glass art is still alive today. Along the Glasstraße you will be captivated again and again by the versatility of this noble material.

The Glasstraße begins in the town of lead crystal, Neustadt a. d. Waldnaab. On its journey through the largest coherent forest mountain range in Central Europe, it leads to traditional towns and communities and their numerous glassworks and glass processing plants, all the way to the Three Rivers City of Passau. Glass in all its diversity can be experienced here. Glassblowers let you look over their shoulders as they skilfully and artistically conjure up the most beautiful shapes from a viscous, glistening mass. Under expert guidance, you can even try your hand at a glassmaker's pipe and blow a crystal ball of individual colour and size. It goes without saying that this is also something very special for children.

In general, there is a lot on offer for the little ones on the Glasstraße. The Kinderland in the JOSKA Erlebniswelt Bodenmais, the Bayerwald Zoo in Lohberg, the National Park Centres and much more will make children's eyes light up. Parents, meanwhile, can relax or take their time and enjoy what the glass companies have to offer. From the bargains of a factory outlet at Eisch, Nachtmann, Zwiesel Kristallglas or Spiegelau to artistic creations or antique models at Poschinger, Weinfurtner, Herrmann or Gläsernen Winkel, the inclined visitor can find everything his or her heart desires. There are also unique pieces by internationally renowned glass artists, such as Erwin Eisch and Theodor Sellner, or by many young artists with new experimental glass ideas.

The great thing about the Glasstraße is without doubt the nature that surrounds it. Completely embedded in the Upper Palatinate and the Bavarian Forest, the region is an Eldorado for cyclists, hikers and nature lovers. Names like Goldsteig or Bavarian Forest National Park speak for themselves. Near the town of Regen you will even find aforest of glass, in Riedlhütte theforest-glass garden, near Viechtach the glorious barn, in Passau the crystal ship Danube, in Zwiesel the largest crystal glass pyramid in the world and a glorious chapel. There are no limits to the variety of ways to get to know the noble material of glass in the numerous historic glass towns, glass galleries, glassworks and glass museums along the Glass Route. Nor are the countless possibilities along the Glass Route for spending an unforgettable holiday.

The Glass Route makes it possible to experience:
