Nice round tour north of Kranj, using mostly less frequented roads. In addition to nice meadows, woods and villages we shall visit two interesting natural points:
> Vazengarica wetland, > Bobovek ponds.
This round tour is predominantly biking, but when in Vazengarica wetland, you can also do an interesing hike around the area. Also by Bobovek ponds you can do a short walk along the shores.
Take time to do some hikings, as mentioned in the tour description.
Trstenik, 509 m
Kranj, 394 m
Best time of year
Don't visit Vazengarica marsh land when waters are high! You will not be able to cross the creek dry and visit the wetland.

From Kranj you ride northwards, by a bike trail and main road you reach Kokrica, cross the highway and continue straight by the main road. When leaving the last houses, you turn left, towards Bobovek and Bela.
After passing the last houses of Bobovek village, you deter left and after industrial buildings left again, reaching the natural protected area of Bobovek ponds. When excavating clay, archaeological artefacts from Antiquity were found and also a skeleton of a mamoth.
From the ponds we return on the main road and continue northwards towards Bela. We ignore the first road left, but on the second crossroads we turn left, towards Tatinec hamlet.
The continuation goes all the time along the eastern border of Velika gmajna (Big Forrest). From Tatinec we continue to Hraše, there keep left and continue towards Čadovlje. Just before it we steeply ride down into the creek valley and then up again into the village.
(East of Čadovlje there's the village of Žablje. Nothing special there, but on the forrested hill, just north of the village, once a castle stood. Yet, not much can be seen there, only a flattened area and the remains of a ditch and walls.)
The usual continuation of our tour from Čadovlje is northwards, towards Trstenik. The road is nice, but ascending slightly. Hitting the road before Trstenik, we turn left, descend full speed and with all velocity probably almost gaining the hihgest point, near the church of Trstenik.
The return goes by the main road, from the village down towards the SW. When the road starts flattening, we make sure to deter right from the main road, following the inscriptions to Goriče and Golnik. The road to Goriče slightly ascends on a broad, forrested saddle and then descends into the village center. There we keep mostly left, in the SW direction, until exiting the village, hitting the main road Kranj - Golnik. On the left we see the cemetery.
From here, we could return by the main road to Kranj, but the second natural landmark is very worth visiting. To reach Vazengarica wetland, we cross (at point J) the main road and continue by the rugged cart-road towards the west. It detours an interesting, round, forested hill, then it winds over the meadows. Ahead we see an interesting grassy mound. Its regular shape makes us think it may be a prehistoric burial mound, but so far there's no evidence for that. Before reaching it, turn by an even weaker cart-road right and cross the meadows until reaching the creek.
Leave bikes there and cross the creek (there's no bridge) to reach Vazengarica wetland. Take time to explore the marh! Some great scenes are awaiting you there, especially in spring or in colourful autumn. By foot you can even go around the marsh, but that will take you almost one hour. South of the marsh, the creek is flooding the forest, so the wetland is interesting also there.
Then we return across the creek to the bikes and continue riding over the meadows towards the grassy mound. With a mountain bike you can even ride up the mound - nice panorama there. Then you continue along the creek - no trail there, for riding by the meadow a mountain bike is the best option. Finally you reach the macadam road near a small bridge. There you turn left.
By the macadam you ride less than 500 m, before the village of Letenice the road becomes asphalted. On the crossroad at Letenice, you continue in the same direction - towards the SE. You ride across meadows and soon reach the main road again. There turn right - towards Kranj.
This stretch of our tour goes by a more frequented road, but it is straight and fast. We soon pass Tenetiše (village is on the left) and continue straight across a long, flat field/meadow. Mlaka, the next village is already in the suburb of Kranj. After passing it we can from the "Mamoth roundabout" either continue straight in Kokrica, or ride right and below the highway to the bike trail, connecting Naklo with Kranj. It's a quick return anyway.
