This is a full days walk, more if you intend to return on foot (although it's possible to get the bus between Lochgoilhead and Dunoon, so this isn't necessary). It takes place on core-paths and Forestry roads for the most part. It's a thoroughouly enjoyable walk, affording excellent views over Holy Loch, Loch Long and Loch Goil, without the price of a steep ascent in most cases.
Starting from Kilmun Church, you follow a lane and a trail up to the Forestry road that chases the hillside behind Strone and Blairmore. You then cut through a farm and some overgrown moorland to pick up the Forestry road that circumnavigates Stronchullin Burn. There's no bridge over the burn and this section adds a good 3 miles to the journey but is mostly at low level and rewards you with a great view of Stronchullin Falls.
The route cuts through another farm and leads you onto the Forestry trails behind Ardentinny, depositig you eventually in Ardentinny car park. From here, follow the beach round to another set of Forestry trails behind Glenfinart. Strike up into the hills to pick up a core path that follows the shoreline right through to Carrick Castle. This is mostly on wide, hard-core Forestry roads but there's a section near the end where a footpath leaves the road, and the signpost is hard to spot.
Once at Carrick Castle, the walk to Lochgoilhead's Curch of the Three Bretheren is completed on the tarmac roads (with a brief sting through Cormonachan Woodlands). Return the way you came or make use of the 486 bus to get you back to Kilmun/Dunoon.
