Pilgerweg "VIA ROMEA"Start
Destination
Turn-by-turn directions
Starting point of the stage from Friedrichroda to Schmalkalden on the pilgrim trail of the VIA ROMEA is the "Sankt Blasiuskirche" (church) in Friedrichroda. Via "Marktstraße", "Kirchgasse" and "Hauptstraße", we come to "Schmalkaldener Straße". This one leads us for a while uphill, out of the village, through a valley. Behind the mill, turn left onto a forest trail called "Roter Weg", uphill, in the direction of "Spießberghaus". At the "Spießberghaus", we follow the path which takes us straight to the "Rennsteig".
Follow the trail "Rennsteig" to the left. Following the signs "Ebertswiese", we reach "Ebertswiese" on the Rennsteig trail. From here, we follow the broad road to "Floh". Keeping downhill, we reach the village of "Floh" on the "Höhnbergstraße". In "Floh", we take the "Bahnhofstraße" to come to the "Mommelstein-Radwanderweg (cycle path)". This one runs straight on a former railway line to Schmalkalden. At the "Neuen Teich" in Schmalkalden, we keep to the left and reach the old town and the "St. Georg" church on the "Altmarkt".
