The Viking trail part 7, Gimo to Österbybruk 11 km (the same as part 11 of the Upland trail)
This stretch runs between two beautiful old ironworks villages typical of Uppland. You will have a walk through varied woodlands and over moorlands, mostly on paths. On this stretch, you will be in the middle of nature together with the animals living there.
From here on, you will walk on woodland paths through lovely areas with wild berries and mushrooms. On this stretch, you can pick wild berries and follow an old timber-floating canal. You may stop and take a break, let your mind wander at one of the rest spots and simply relax. Enjoy nature. You are walking on the Viking trail and the Uppland trail and you will need to follow signs and directions for “Upplandsleden”. The complementing colour markings for the Viking Trail are dark red and appears together with the cross of St Olav.
After a while, you will reach a rest spot by the ruins of the Sågarbo farm. You will also be able to see what is left of a saw works that Stephan de Geer, the owner of Gimo ironworks, bought in 1663. A bit further on you will come across the ruins of Folkmora farm.
Shortly after Sågarbo, there is another clearance, but here the 1-kilometre path is cleared, which makes for easy walking. On approaching the shelter half-way through this part of the trail, the path crosses an area where the grass grows high in late summer.

The Viking trail continues on from Gimo ironworks and follows along country lanes and gravel roads on the western side of Gimo pond. After 2.5 kilometres, the trail veers off into a clearance caused by wildfire some years ago. This part may be a bit more challenging to traverse. You might instead choose to walk alongside the clearance on the gravelled path.
