Turn-by-turn directions
Our starting point is at the church "Mariae Himmelfahrt", at the "Marienplatz". We head south via "Lindenplatz", through the "Polizeidienertor". We walk past the tennis courts and come down to the “Lech” river. Here, we keep to the right, until we reach the town wall of the “Lechstufe”. We cross the town wall and then keep sharply left and go down again to the banks of the “Lech” river. We follow this one in a wide arc, just before a paper factory. Here, we turn right and follow a steeply sloping path to the “Schlossberg”.
Downhill from the “Schlossberg”, we arrive on "Wetterstraße", down to “Peitingen”. Follow the "Schongauer Straße" to the right until we turn right at "Hauptplatz". Past the St. Michael's Church and the tourist information, we continue on the "Pfarrweg", the "Azamstraße" and the "Bahnhofstraße", passing the monastery "Maria unter der Egg". Then, we turn right into "Bergwerkstraße" and then turn right again into "Zugspitzstraße". We get out of the village via the field path "Der Mittlerer Weg".
At the next crossroads, we go straight on, then take the left curve and then we go to the right, through an underpass ("Ammer-Amper-Radweg") of the B742. We come to the parking lot at the "Ammerleite". From here, we follow the path through the Ammertal (“Ammer” valley). After crossing a bridge, we continue to the left, along the banks of the “Ammer” river. We come to the farm of "Schweinberg", cross it and then turn left towards “Rottenbuch”. Going past some ponds, we reach the centre with the monastery grounds.
