The 1900 kilometres long pilgrim trail "VIA ROMEA", from Stade (close to Hamburg) to Rom, from Soltau to Wietzendorf.
The eigth stage of the Pilgrim route of the VIA ROMEA leads from Soltau to Wietzendorf. Along a railway line, passing the NATO's military training centre, we go through the forest for a long time. In Wietzendorf, the goal is the Jakobikirche (Church) in the town centre.
Safety information
We take a section on a rarely used country road ("Panzerringstraße"). Please stick to the left and watch out for cars.

Turn-by-turn directions
Starting point of the hike from Soltau to Wietzendorf is the Lutherkirche (Church) on the corner of "Lüneburger Straße" / "Birkenstraße". Follow the "Birkenstraße" to the south and then turn left into "Reinickendorfer Straße". At the "Heidlandstraße", turn right until the road "Trift". Follow the road "Trift" to the left and continue straight ahead. Under a railway embankment, to another railway embankment, which we follow to the left. We follow the railway line. On the river "Große Aue", we cross under the railway line. At the railway crossing "Tiegen", we cross the railway line to the left. Then turn right again. At the "Abelbecker Weg", we cross under the railway line for the third time.
The "Abelbecker Weg" leads us straight ahead and then crosses the federal highway A7. Past the Abelbeck farmstead til the NATO military training base "Munster". We follow the "Panzerringstraße" to the left. We go on the rarely used country road.
Just before the end of the forest, a forest trail leads away from the "Panzerringstraße". Follow the signs of the "Heidschnuckenweg" and go through the forest for a long time. Crossing of the river "Wietze" off "Königsberg", through a hamlet continuing to Wietzendorf. We reach the campsite "Südsee-Camp" before Wietzendorf. We turn to the right on the way to the forest. We get to the busy county road "K41", cross it and continue straight on the road "High Field" to Wietzendorf. After arriving in the village, we turn to the right on the road "Über der Brücke" and reach the "Jakobikirche" (Church), following the "Hauptstraße".

Getting there
Soltau is centrally located between the large cities of Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen. Three federal roads lead through the village and close to it are two motorway junction points of the A7.
