Braunschweig, Domplatz (Square with the cathedral)
Starting point of the stage from Rietze to Braunschweig on the Pilgrim route of the “Via Romea” is in Rietze, “Wasserreihe". Head south on the "Alte Herrenstraße", out of the village, until you reach a crossing country road. We cross this road half-right and then go on the "Ersestraße", past the Wipshausen station. On the "Ersestraße", we go through Horst and Wipshausen.
In Wipshausen, the "Ersestraße" becomes the "Kirchstraße". We continue straight on, between some gravel mining piles to the "Judenburg". Here we keep to the right and cross the country road between Wense and Ersehof. We continue on the road to Harvesse. On the "Wenser Straße", we arrive at an intersection in Harvesse. Here we turn right on the "Wendenburger Straße" and follow the foot / bike path under the Bundesautobahn A2, to Wendenburg.
In Wendenburg, we turn left after a supermarket, into the "Braunschweiger Straße". Follow the foot / bike path towards Bortfeld. Via the “Mittellandkanal”, we reach the village Bortfeld. Here, we follow the main road "Bortfelder Straße" and turn left after a right turn, following the "Bortfelder Straße". Then we turn left for a second time, into the "Glinderweg".
We go towards Braunschweig. Get past the Agricultural Research Institute and turn left at a country road, "Bundesallee". In the part of “Kanzlerfeld”, we turn right and follow the "Bundesallee" to the part of Lehndorf. The road becomes the "Saarstraße". We cross the federal highway A391 and then end up on the "Hildesheimer Straße". Cross a roundabout (straight) and then turn left into "Petristraße". At a T-junction, we follow the "Celler Straße" to the right and cross the river “Oker”.
Afterwards, we keep to the right and reach the old town of Braunschweig with the cathedral.
Rietze is located in the immediate vicinity of the federal road B214 between Braunschweig and Celle.
