What is the Kieksi area conglomerate, which was born 1 000 million years ago and peeks in the cliffs of the Oulujoki river? And how does it feel to admire the rugged scenery of the Oulujoki river that opens from the top of the red granite rock, which was born almost 2 000 million years ago? Lemmenpolku is an interesting geological trail that provides information about the unique geology and cultural history of the area. Lemmenpolku is an important Rokua UNESCO Global Geopark destination.
The Lemmenpolku nature trail is a versatile day trip destination in Muhos on the banks of the Oulujoki river. The trail, which is about two kilometers long, runs from the Montta Camping Area to the Pyhäkoski power plant. The signposts for the starting point of the route can be found at both ends and the route is well marked and guided. The route with altitude differences is suitable for persons in normal and good conditions, and rest and campfire sites along the route provide a resting place if needed.
The lower trail can be slippery in some places, and there are steep stairs along with it.
Walk along the marked path, do not pick up any plants, cut branches, damage the environment or structures.
Campfire is allowed at campfire sites.
Tips and hintsThere is also a wide range of other activities from fishing to biking and kayaking. The area offers accommodation from cottages to B&B accommodation.
Getting thereComing from direction Oulu, drive 30 kilometers on the Kajaani-Vaala road (nr 22) to Muhos and turn left at the intersection of Riihikylä onto Laukansillantie. After crossing the bridge, turn right and continue on the road Ketolanojantie for about 7 kilometers, after which Lemmenpolku nature trail is on the right side of the road. By car, the journey takes about half an hour.
