The 7-km-long Lakeside Route starts from the district of Pallo, close to the centre of Lappeenranta, and continues along the shores of Lake Saimaa to the university campus in the district of Skinnarila. The route is accessible to all and surfaced with stone dust. On the Lakeside Route, you can admire the beautiful Lake Saimaa while walking in a herb-rich forest. Those who are not in a hurry may find fascinating details along the route that runs in a lush landscape. Stones from Purala, Lappeenranta, have been brought to the sides of the route. Benches and outdoor gym equipment have been installed by the Lakeside Route – consequently, it is suitable for dog walkers, families with children, outdoor enthusiasts, anyone! Pupils can also explore the Lakeside Route and receive information on the natural features of the area.
There is a natural spring along the route. You can take fresh drinking water from it.
It is safest to move in a group if you do not know the terrain or the water area. Before the excursion, it is advisable to acquire the necessary maps and guides and check the weather forecast, particularly when going boating. Wear sturdy footwear and clothes that suit the weather. It is recommended that you take first aid equipment, rainwear, a spare set of clothes, as well as enough drinks with you, particularly in the summer. Remember to wear a floating vest when boating.
In wet weather and in winter, duckboards, rocks and piers can be slippery.
