There are multiple routes up to Drachensee. Since I have already done the Seebensteig (D/E) and the Hohergang (A/B), I chose this route up via the Biberwierer Scharte.
I will note that there were some troubles at the beginning of this tour and recommend you stay on the exact path as it is marked. We tried to take the other dashed route which looks shorter (see map) and it didn't go anywhere - we had to turn back after 400 m of elevation gain and go back. So stay on the marked path.
The Biberwierer Scharte is nice and relatively steep. After reaching the pass, the views of the valley and surrounding moutains are spectacular. The pasture is full of sheep and wild flowers.
Another 45 minutes gets you to the Drachensee and Coburgerhütte which offers great food and beer.
The path down goes via the Seebensee. From the Seebensee, there are a couple paths down to Ehrwald. One is the Hohergang which is steep and classified as an A/B klettersteig. It's nothing that a regular hiker can't handle. Option 2 is the road which is gravel and quite liesurley to walk down although expect it to take about one hour longer.
Drachensee is a place I come back to every year. The area offers so much in terms of lakes, views, klettersteigs, and other alpine hike (ie Sonnenspitze).
