Scharnitz can be reached from Munich directly with the regional train. The first part of the trail is a paved, relatively flat road. It's a nice warmup for the steep sections later. The trail takes you first up to Pleisenhütte (1750m). After the hut, the path gets significantly steeper and rockier for the final 800 m of elevation.
The path can feel a little exposed, especially as you near the gipfel. You'll be rewarded with 360 views of the surrouding landscapes at the top.
We enjoyed beer at the Pleisenhütte and then made our way back down to Scharnitz to catch the train back to Munich. Highly recommended summer hike!
