Worthwhile mountain tour on an active volcano.
Distance 15.8 km
The active volcano Peteroa lies between the Planchon volcanoes in the north and the Cerro Azufre in the south. Both peaks are tough climbs, but the volcanic craters of Peteroa are relatively easy to climb. In addition, they are worth a tour not only for central Chile. Several craters, partly filled with sulfuric acid lakes, mighty glaciers on Cerro Azufre and a mountain panorama like in the Himalayas. The access leads through Curico in Chile, but the ascent itself comes from the Argentine side.
Nice place to stay in Los Queñes www.hosterialosquenes.cl

Safety informationBe careful at the crater with the hot steam.
Tips and hintsCan be booked as a tour at Costa y Cumbre Tours in Talca www.costaycumbretours.cl
Getting thereFrom Curico we take the “Vergara” pass road to Argentina. Last accommodation option in Los Queñes, here we also get food for our tour. Attention!!! No food may be brought back, even if it can be proven that it was bought in Chile. From Los Queñes it is 31 km to the intersection of the cement mine, from now on the road gets worse. At 43 km we reach the Chilean border post in San Pedro, where we officially have to leave. Now the gravel road goes in serpentines to the Andes pass at km 55, at km 62 we end at the Argentine Gendermarie. You have to officially enter here and leave the car behind. We start the trek.
ParkingAt the Argentine border control.
