This mountain tour to the highest peak on the shores of Lake Maggiore can undoubtedly be described as the region's royal tour.

The tour for experienced mountaineers starts in Cavaglio San Donnino in the Valle Cannobina. The picturesque valley, through which the rushing Cannobino meanders, stretches from Cannobio to the west. In addition to an intact, wild nature, there are also numerous original villages to be found there. From Cavaglio we climb via the mountain villages of Olzeno and Le Biuse first to the foot of Monte Zuccaro. Then follows the demanding climb to the summit of Monte Limidario. The mountain got its Italian name because its ridge forms the border between the Italian Cannobina Valley and the Swiss Centovalli. As the highest mountain in these two valleys, the Gridone, as it is called in Switzerland, offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Ticino and Valais mountain peaks and Lake Maggiore as far as Ascona and Locarno. The subsequent traverse to Monte Faierone also demands surefootedness and a head for heights. But then we are rewarded once again with an impressive panorama of Lake Maggiore
