The town scape of Oberstdorf is characterized by the striking image of the Schattenberg. The crossing of the "wild ridge" is for advanced mountaineers.

This demanding tour takes from Oberstdorf up to the Schattenberg and follows the rocky and pined covered trail to Seeköpfle, Hüttenkopf and Zeigersattel. The alpine Gleitweg is one of the most beautiful, but also most demanding descents in the Allgaeu Alps. It takes you down to the Oytal (valley). As the tour is only recommended to experienced mountaineers and since it is not particularly well prepared, it is not overrun by large numbers of hikers and tourists. The tour provides mountaineers with the spectacular sight of the Oberstdorf mountains, Iller valley and the green shimmering lake Seealpsee. If you are lucky you might get to see chamois, groundhogs or even golden eagles. However, keep in mind to remain concentrated throughout the descent and not to be distracted by the view.
