About the Aggenstein

The long mountain ridge that we can already see from Pfronten-Steinach below is the Breitenberg. From the summit there is a beautiful panorama over the Ostallgäu region with its lakes, the Allgäu Alps and the Tannheim Valley in the south. An ascent is definitely worthwhile. Today's tour, however, takes us to the Aggenstein: the grey north face seems massive, forbidding and impregnable. But on the way from the mountain station of the Hochalpbahn across the meadows towards the mountain, we discover that there is actually a path leading up. The rock is interrupted by a narrow, steep meadow slope. The path up to the summit cross is not only steep, but also requires surefootedness and becomes a scramble in some places. On the descent to the valley, we then deserve a stop at the Bad Kissinger Hütte before hiking through the Reichenbachklamm gorge - a wonderful nature experience.
