Very pretty route which is generally winter friendly even though 90% off road. But some sections of the east end of the N Downs Way can get mucky in winter conditions. It follows north downs way to Dorking and mainly route 22 back
Alternative starting points with free car parks are Shere and Albury heath sports ground. Starting at the low point gets the hill climb out if the way early on, which I prefer, In June/Juky the wild flowers are excellent along the Pilgrims Way before reaching Dorking

Very pretty route which is winter friendly even though 90% off road. Great variety of scenery and tracks. It follows the North Downs way and then drops down to the Pilgrims Way into Dorking and mainly Route 22 back. Goes through some pretty villages including Abinger Hammer with its Clock Jack and Shere with its ancient drinking well.
The long hill at the end can be shortened by an off road route as shown on map at point 1 but is still challenging! Apart from that there is nothing really tough. Some great views as you approach Newlands Corner
Expect the odd mud patch in winter and a bit of rooty single track in places.
See information points on the map for directions at decision points.
The route starts at Newlands Corner with great views, cafe and toilets, but a parking charge of £5 for the day. This puts the refreshment stop at Dorking about half way. Alternative free parking is shown on the map; either 2 miles into the route or 2 miles before the end at Aldbury sports ground. The latter means you will not have a big climb at the end up to Newlands corner and have to wait longer for refreshments in Dorking.
