Mostly on bridleways and byways open to all traffic, this multi day mountain bike route is part of the Isle of Wight’s exciting "Bicycle Island" cycle route offer.
The route can be hit hard over a day or spread out for longer so you can stop and enjoy the stunning scenery from the tops of the three major downs that you climb. There are a wealth of “Cyclist Welcome” accredited accommodation providers near the route. See the islands premium cycle holiday website for details. http://www.visitisleofwight.co.uk/bicycle-island
There are some on road sections on this route that connect you to bridleways and link the route into a circle.
Good start points include Newport, the "Cycling capital” of the Island and Freshwater Bay in the West Wight. Both of these locations are easily accessible on bicycles from ferry ports by following the railway tracks from Yarmouth and Cowes respectively.
A highlight of the route is a visit to the Isle of Wight Mountain bike Centre at Cheverton Farm. http://www.isleofwightmountainbikecentre.co.uk/
This course is open for day or season tickets and was designed as the mountain bike course in the 2011 Island Games.
