A very varied scenic route via Guildford and Shamley, much of it on tracks, with one big climb early on and one towards the end. The tracks are all winter friendly. Allow 2-2.5 hours saddle time.
It starts with a sandy track across Albury Common and then from Albury it crosses the lovely St Martha’s Hill with a church and graveyard on the top, with great views before dropping into Guildford through the Castle grounds. St Marha's Hill is challenging towards the top as it is very sandy, but doable especially if you take the narrow less sandy track to the right.
From Guildford the route follows the river Wey (wild swimming options) until it picks up the old railway track towards Cranleigh for about 3 miles before turning off to Shamley where there is a nice pub on the green. After that the climbing starts but most is on a dead end tarmac road.
The single track along the top talks you to the fabulous Shelter covered in Cedar Shingles. This leaves you with 3 miles of downhill descents on wide and single tracks practically all the way back (some stoney bits) Towards the end there is an optional loop that takes you through 2 fords into the pretty village of Shere adding less than 2 miles.
Could start at Aldbury (as map shows) or Shere - free car parks at both
