A versatile trail on a natural path takes the biker around the Kikarinlampi pond at the swamp protection area. This relatively easy-to go trail takes you through a pine forest and to silent deadwood and swamp sceneries, where you can hear the occasional fowl or crane skreech. You pass through a separation fence for reindeer round-ups, the sign of reindeer husbandry in the area.
Halfway through the trail, you are rewarded with a stunning view over the Kikarinlampi and its shores, which, especially in the early morning hours has a misty mystical feel to it. The trail meanders along surrounded by majestic tall trees covered in 'Old man's beard' or beard lichen, lingonberry plants and bogs. The path runs along the quiet stream resulting in an entranced tranquil atmosphere before rejoining the original track.
The rest stop on the route is Pikku Tervalampi lean-to which is quite close to the start / end of the trail.
- Pack snacks and water for the duration of the hike.
- Be sure to take a first aid kid along
- Careful at the Oulu main road crossing.
