Along the trail, you'll be able to enjoy the magnificent Rykimäkuru Gorge, the charming Pyhälampi day trip hut, the beautiful scenery at Lampivaara and the ease of downhill sections.
The Rykimäkero mountain bike trail will take you into fell country, providing you with a wide variety of biking experiences. Changes in elevation along the trail will get your blood pumping nicely, but you'll be able to enjoy some lovely downhill sections through old-growth forests. At Lampivaara, the trail reaches its highest point, where you'll be treated to a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape as you climb out of the forest. There is a café at Lampivaara, where you can also purchase tickets for a guided tour of the neighbouring amethyst mine. The track winds its way through old-growth forests, passing over fell slopes in some sections and along riverbanks in others. The finest view is from the edge of the Rykimäkuru Gorge, where you can see as far as the Pyhätunturi range. Charming rest stops farther out in the wilderness are located around the halfway point. These are the Pyhälampi day trip hut and lean-to as well as the Rykimäkuru lean-to a bit farther out. In addition to these, there is a lean-to next to the café at Lampivaara and a traditional Lapp kota hut at Rykimäkero. Next to little, steep-sloped Rykimäkero at the end of the trail you can see how people stored their food in the old days - right next to the Rykimäkero Lapp hut you'll find a traditional log storehouse and raised food cache.
Reserve an ample amount of time. There are rocky sections along the trail: slow down and walk your bike, if necessary. In the Pyhä-Luosto National Park, a large percentage of the rock fields contain extremely sharp quartzite, which easily puncture tires. Make sure you have a charged mobile phone with you. Gravel-covered sections of the trail can be fast and surprisingly slippery, so ride with care. The trail is also used by visitors on foot, so all bikers are required to slow down whenever encountering other trail users.
