1. Turn R off main track onto narrow path
2. Path gets wet and boogy in places, keep heading W on vague path towards skyline ridge
3. As slope starts to steepen, path becomes more distinct and drier
4. Keep following obvious path to summit then continue to ascend Great Dodd
5. Continue following path to summit of Great Dodd - this takes you away from the BW but is simpler. From summit head S towards Watsons Dodd follow BW around edge of corrie
6. Follow lower track trending R avoiding the ascent to Stybarrow Dodd
7. Fast descent on good surface down to Sticks Pass. Here you can drop E to head back to Glenridding or continue the ascent to Raise. Towards the summit of Raise there are one or two places where you will probably need to push.
8. Descend to the head of Kepple Cove and either drop dow BW to Glenridding or continue over Whiteside towards Helvellyn
9. Rattle down to the next col to begin the steep ascent up the ridge to Helvellyn Lower Man. This ridge will probably succumb to a combination of pushing and riding. This is the way back so check the line for your return.
10. Not far to go now, one last short push following the BW. From the col two obvious tracks head in a SE direction, both make their way to the summit. The one on the R is slightly gentler but a longer slope the one on the L is steeper but levels out. If you're in cloud BEWARE of the drop to the L over Swirral Edge and down to Red Tarn.
11. Hooray, soak it alll in, you are at the highest point in England that you can legally ride your bike to! When ready retrace the route to point 9 - the summit of Whiteside
12. Now begins the fast and furious descent. Easy to start with but then it gets steeper and steeper through the zig-zags. CAUTION - the track can be loose and the corners are flat and sharp
Sharp, gravelly bends
13.Great track, easier angled just follow your nose downhill.
Watch it going through the zig-zags above the buildings very loose surface.
14. Through the gate and keep following your nose downhill and back to Glenridding
Find the car, go for a brew, have a beer and continue grinning from ear to ear as you relive the day!
