Mountain biking in sand dunes to fisherman village
Cycle along Northern Europe's largest sand dunes. The trail takes you from the quiet countryside through the pristine beach of Vattaja to the colourful fishing village of Ohtakari
The charming 18th-century garden with wooden buildings is the heart of the village. During the Finnish War, the ceasefire between Sweden and Russia was drawn in the vicarage.
Jukkolanmäki Navetanvintti has been renovated in an old barn. Homemade pastries are served with warm-hearted service.
The Karipolku Trail (7.3 km) leads to the beach area along sandy forestry terrain. There are campfire places along the trail. The 15 km long dune area in Vattajanniemi is the largest and most untouched in Finland and belongs to the Natura 2000 nature reserve and FINIBA bird sanctuary. The bird tower has a magnificent view over the sea! There is also a shorter nature trail along the dunes by the beach. The coastal meadows are grazed for openness and the hiker often encounters with curious sheep.
The trail continues to the colourful fishing village of Ohtakari, where you can relax on the terrace while exploring the fishermen's life.
Observe the noticeboard from the Defence Forces in the Vattaja area.
