At the back of St. Moritz the trail enters the coniferous forests of the Engadine before reaching the idyllic lake of Champfèr. The wide path continues along Lake Silvaplana to the picturesque village of Sils Maria. The path along Lake Sils is a little narrower and steeper. Shortly after the old stone houses of Isola the trail branches off to the left and leads up the mountain. The views of the lakes from the alpine meadow are well worth the effort! From Petpreir the pace picks up tremendously as the trail heads towards the Val Fex. Bikers looking for more should take the little asphalted road into the Val Fex (option A). You exit the valley by the same route to bike down the valley, along the lakes. At Champfèr there is a nice detour to the small moorland lake of Lej Marsch, its refreshing waters very inviting in summer. From here it is not very far to St. Moritz.
Note(s) From noon onwards a strong southerly wind known as the Maloja wind often blows across the lakes of the Upper Engadine. To avoid the strong headwind, it is well worth starting the tour early in the morning. Between Sils and Isola the trail is a little narrower and is also used by hikers, so please take care and be mindful of others.
